If you prefer Fatal Frame IV to the other titles in the series I'd genuinely love to hear your take on it as I have a tremendously hard time seeing how anyone can take this game seriously as a piece of media let alone as part of the Fatal Frame series. Not to mention of course that lunar eclipses don't occur every ten years like clockwork. There's the fact that Misaki, who I would argue is at least initially the most relatable character, is introduced in a way that makes her thoroughly unlikable - basically bullying Madoka, Ruka getting dream teleported into her old house where she can pick up items and notes, and Choushiro getting his flashlight in a hilarious Zelda 1 "It's dangerous to go alone! Take this" way. The gameplay was really good, the ghosts are detailed, well made and scary as hell and atmosphere is scarier than the past games and the story is really good. That's not to say that it doesn't have its moments of course, but I feel that they're often overshadowed by some genuinely baffling decisions and wholly underdeveloped ideas that leave it feeling rather weak as a horror experience and especially as part of the Fatal Frame series.Īnd there's so much that I didn't even mention in the video. The problems I have with the game run deeper than any translation.
